Hawk Visits in March 2019

As we enter the month of March, we get closer to this year's nesting season. The hawks will be visiting more frequently until the eggs are laid (most likely sometime this month) at which at least one of them will stay at the nest throughout the whole day. Until then, here are some of the nest visits they have made in March:
Mar. 1
Before 10:43 AM - Both hawks arrived on the nest.
10:48 AM - The male hawk leaves.
10:54 AM - The female hawk is standing on the nest and yawns at one point.
10:55 AM - She starts rearranging sticks, while also standing around at times and looking out from the nest.
Sometime between 10:58 AM and 11:03 AM - The female hawk leaves.
11:03 AM - The male hawk returns and rearranges some sticks on the nest.
Before or at 11:34 AM - The male hawk leaves.
2:23 PM - The male hawk returns to poke around at the nest.
2:26 PM - He leaves.
3:22 PM - The female hawk is on the nest. She may have tried to go into the nest bowl, but made a sudden reaction and stopped to look at the office window.
3:24 PM - She leaves.
Mar. 2
Around 7 AM - Both hawks were on the nest.
Around 10:35 AM - The male hawk may have been on the nest.
Mar. 3
7:15 AM - The male hawk brought a rat to the nest to give to the female hawk and left. He later came back with a stick, stayed for a minute, and then left again. The female hawk picked at the rat, but didn't eat the whole thing.
Mar. 5
Before 12 PM - The female hawk arrived on the nest.
12:04 PM - She flew off.
Sometime before 2:12 PM - The female hawk may have made another visit to the nest.
Mar. 7
Several times in the morning (some before 7 AM) - Both hawks were here rearranging material that was already on the nest.
Around 10:44 AM - The female hawk was at the nest.
Around 10:46 AM - The male hawk flew in to join her.
Mar. 9
Before or around 8:24 AM - A hawk visited the nest.
Several times in the morning - The hawks made some visits to the nest.
Around 2:45 PM - Both hawks were at the nest.
About an hour before 6:01 PM - The female hawk arrived first and the male hawk soon followed. The male hawk moved a blue fabric, which may have been brought in today, on the nest around.
Around 2 to 4 PM - One of the hawks was on the nest frequently.
Mar. 10
Before 2:30 PM - The female hawk arrived on the nest.
2:32 PM - She flew off.
2:35 PM - The male hawk came in with some new nest material, which consisted of several long, brown strands of an unknown material. He arranged the strands along the inside of the nest bowl.
2:37 PM - He flew off.
3:21 PM - The male hawk returns to the nest. He rearranged some nest material, dug at the center of the nest bowl, and tried to use his beak to break off a branch into smaller twigs.
3:27 PM - He flew off.
5:05 PM - A hawk that was on the nest left.
5:08 PM - The male hawk returned to the nest carrying a rat.
5:09 PM - He flew off with the rat.
Mar. 11
Several times in the morning - The hawks made a lot of visits to the nest and brought in a new white piece of rope as nest material.
12:46 PM - The male hawk arrives and rearranged some nest material.
12:47 PM - He leaves.
Mar. 12
A few minutes before 12:55 PM - A hawk flew on the nest with a plastic bag and then quickly flew off with it.
Around or before 6:34 PM - The male hawk visited the nest.
6:38 PM - The female hawk arrived and the male hawk left.
A few minutes before 7:27 PM - The female hawk left.
Mar. 13
Sometime in the morning - The hawks may have visited and moved around some nest material.
1:28 PM - The male hawk comes in with a stick and places it on the nest. He rearranges a stick that was already on the nest before flying off.
2:20 PM - The male hawk returns to adjust some of the twigs along the inside of the nest bowl.
2:23 PM - He leaves.
6:55 PM - The female hawk arrives and moves around the white material (possibly a white glove) that is inside the nest bowl. She tries sitting on the nest at one point before moving the white material around even more.
Around 7 PM - She starts staring and looking out from the nest.
7:10 PM - She starts preening herself for a short time.
Around 7:16 PM - She does more nest rearrangements and tugs at the white rope on the nest.
7:31 PM and 7:48 PM - She starts preening herself again.
10:16 PM - She flies off.
She appeared to be staying overnight on the nest, which would've been the first night this nesting season it happened, but she didn't stay the whole night.
Mar. 14
Around 7 AM - The male hawk may have visited the nest.
Around 7:22 AM - The female hawk may have visited.
1 or 2 hours before 11 AM - A hawk visited and left.
Around 11:13 AM - The male hawk brought a brown napkin to the nest.
Mar. 15
The first egg has been laid!
The female hawk sat down on the nest at 3:40 PM and 5 minutes later, when she got up from the nest, there was an egg in the nest.
With the first egg of the 2019 nesting season in the nest, the hawks will now begin to stay at the nest throughout the entire day. Stay tuned for weekly news articles on the events at the nest.

This list may not contain all the visits that happened over the course of the month (some visits may go unreported and some will be missed), but these are the ones that I saw being reported in the NYU Hawk Cam Ustream chatroom and ones that I saw myself.
